About
Peen’s was born out of my lifelong love of food. I take enormous pleasure from eating and sharing food with friends and family. It was this driving passion that I wanted to bring to Peen’s. My desire was to create simple, memorable food made with real care and attention to detail. Peen’s was founded on the principle of producing exceptional food, from the very best ingredients then delivering it with exceptional service. We have stuck to this ethos and continually strive towards excellence in all areas on a daily basis.
Although Peen’s also operates as bar and cafe, food is at the heart of our offer offering. We keep abreast of food trends and pride ourselves on creating innovative, honest food with a rustic edge.
We produce over 95% of all our produce on the premises – even down to bacon, mayonnaise, ketchup, yoghurt, cheese, pates, chutneys, coffee biscuits and bread.

Embracing the Garden of England
Utilising produce from Kent is central to our operation. Our ethos of using local, seasonal and organic produce, where possible, means any new ingredient will automatically source locally if possible. Whilst this turns up some wonderful produce, we will not compromise on quality. Where our search is in vain, we turn to local suppliers to import what we need. We are part of the local economy. It makes good sense for us to support the ‘Thanet pound’.
Our Suppliers
We have established excellent relations with local suppliers. Here are just some of the suppliers with whom we work.:
Monkshill Farm, Waterham near Faversham – We have worked closely with Richard and Helen from Monkshill for the last three years. They produce rare breed pork, free-range chickens, eggs, beef and lamb on a small scale. They are a producer of real quality and integrity.
W. H. Hazel Butchers, High St, Broadstairs – Nick takes has taken care of all of our beef, chicken, rabbits, game and offal, since we opened.
Fruits de Mer, The Broadway, Broadstairs – We have used Jason since 2005, who has 15 boats landing on a daily basis. Most mornings one of the kitchen team will go to Fruits de Mer to select the pick of the catch. If not Jason will send down what he knows we like. We can only serve seasonal and local fish, because that is all the fishermen catch!
Roses Farm Shop, Hain Rd, Broadstairs – Nearly all our fruit and vegetables are grown in the Thanet area - about a third comes from Roses.
Nick Anselmi, the crab man, Broadstairs harbour – We purchase live crabs in season. Nick is a short, two-minute walk from our door.
Chegworth Valley Juices, Harrietsham – We stock a range of Chegworth award-winning organic juices produced with apples, pears and soft fruits from their own orchards.
The Kent Coffee Company, High St, Broadstairs – We stock an organic, fair-trade coffee from New Guinea. We firmly believe that this is the singularly best coffee served in Thanet.
